5 Tips for Smarter Vacuuming

April 4, 2017

Vacuuming your house is one of those chores you do without thinking about. Back and forth over the carpet- what’s there to it, right? You have probably never even considered that there are time-saving tips and techniques to get the most out of your vacuum for the deepest clean your carpet even experienced. Here are a few pointers for next-level vacuuming that will make your whole house look its best:

1. Switch it Up

If you’re only vacuuming in one direction, you are missing a good amount of dust and dirt in your carpet. Going left to right, up and down will ensure that you have covered all the bases and gotten a more thorough clean.

2. Take it Slow

It’s tempting to crank up some music in your earbuds and do a speed round of vacuuming during your chores, but taking the time to slow down will allow your vacuum’s brush rollers to agitate the carpet more effectively, producing a more effective clean.

3. Make Adjustments

Did you ever notice that little dial on the front of your vacuum that you can adjust for different carpet pile heights? Take advantage of it! Adjusting the height for varying types of flooring will get your surfaces cleaner and make vacuuming easier.

4. Use your Tools

Many people don’t bother to use the crevice tools and brush attachments that come with a standard vacuum cleaner, but they can be real game changers in corners, on upholstery, and on drapery. Try using a few of the attachments around the house and prepare to be amazed by the results!

5. Dust First

This may seem like common sense, but it’s best practice to dust your tables and shelves prior to vacuuming. That way, the dirt and dust you are knocking off of your surfaces with the cloth can be sucked up by the vacuum after they fall to the floor, getting rid of them for once and for all.
